Monkey-proof World C’ships: Sindhu Lauds Unique Prep

Monkey-proof World C’ships: PV Sindhu has praised the unique preparation for the BWF World Championships in New Delhi, calling the organizers’ quirky measures a reflection of Indian spirit. The tournament starts on August 17, and authorities have implemented unusual tactics after monkeys and pigeons disrupted the India Open earlier this year. Among the creative steps, four men have been hired to mimic langur calls, scaring away monkeys that fear the larger primates.

The monkey-proof World C’ships plan goes beyond sound effects. Sealed vents, double-door entrances, and automatic outer doors have been installed at the Indira Gandhi Stadium. A non-toxic gel now protects ducting from birds and insects, while machines play predatory bird sounds inside the venue. SAI Executive Director Ambar Pratap Singh confirmed coordination with the MCD to manage stray animals on the campus.

Reacting to the strategy, Sindhu wrote on X: You can laugh at the solution, but you have to love the effort. So many people are working behind the scenes to make sure India is ready to welcome the world. One of the hired men, Zafar, explained that monkeys fear langurs because of their size, making the imitated calls highly effective.

The monkey-proof World C’ships effort highlights a determined push for a smooth event after 17 years. Sindhu added, Our solutions may be uniquely Indian, but so are our warmth, our spirit and our hospitality. With these measures, India is fully prepared to host the world’s best players.
