Lovepreet Singh delivered a sensational performance in the snatch, lifting a Commonwealth Games record 176kg to take a commanding 10kg lead over New Zealand’s David Andrew Liti. England’s Andrew Griffiths trailed in third with 165kg. Lovepreet then added 212kg in the clean and jerk, bringing his total to 388kg and placing him firmly in contention for gold.
However, the competition turned on its head during the final lift. Liti, who had managed only 166kg in the snatch, produced a stunning 223kg clean and jerk—another Games record—to reach a total of 389kg. That one-kilogram margin proved decisive, leaving Lovepreet Singh with silver despite leading until the very last attempt. Griffiths took bronze with a total of 356kg.
