Renault Duster Hybrid: 160PS Strong Hybrid Launched in India

Renault Duster Hybrid: 160PS Strong Hybrid Launched in India marks a significant step for the French automaker. Renault has announced an aggressive product strategy for the Indian market, including seven new models and two new architectures supporting ICE, CNG, electric, and hybrid powertrains. This year, Renault India has planned two major launches: the return of the Duster nameplate and the brand’s first hybrid SUV.

The Renault Duster Hybrid features a strong hybrid powertrain with a 109PS, 1.8-litre, 4-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine paired with a 49PS electric motor. It also includes a 1.4kWh lithium-ion battery pack and a 20PS starter generator, producing a combined output of 160PS and 172Nm. The system uses a clutchless multi-mode gearbox with four gears for the petrol engine and two gears for the electric motor, improving fuel efficiency and reducing mechanical losses.

In city driving at speeds of 50-60kmph, the Renault Duster Hybrid can operate in EV mode for up to 80% of the time, depending on traffic. When accelerating hard, the petrol engine, electric motor, and starter generator work together to deliver full power. At higher speeds, the petrol engine drives the vehicle while the electric motor assists during overtaking. The Duster Hybrid looks identical to its ICE counterpart, except for the Hybrid badging.

A premium three-row SUV based on the Duster is planned for 2027, which was showcased as the Renault Boreal globally. This 7-seater will be longer and more spacious, sharing platform and design elements with the standard model. With the launch of the Renault Duster Hybrid, Renault is positioning itself strongly in India’s growing hybrid SUV market.
