This movie was made with just 20 crores and grossed around 170 crores. And Vijay Sethupathi’s acting is top notch. As a barber, an average father, his acting is simple and superb. Not only Tamil audience, Telugu audience also hit the toy as the screenplay worked out well. If this movie was released in China under the name Karma and Retribution, the audience there would be thrilled. Word of mouth will take off.

The movie released in 40 thousand screens on November 29 and collected more than 55 crores in just ten days. It collected around 70 crore rupees in 12 days. No Indian movie has achieved this range of collections in China in recent times. Maharaja became the highest grossing Indian film after 2018’s Thugs of Hindostan. And it created records as the 13th highest-grossing film in the Chinese market. Moreover, it created history as the first film from the Tamil industry to earn the highest collection. In the past, films like Mersal and Robo did not impress to this extent. Makkal Selvan has created a rare record with this. Kollywood’s success in the Chinese market has shown the way for more Indian films.
