Hyundai Boulder: Production SUV Planned For India Market

Hyundai Boulder: Production SUV Planned For India Market. The Hyundai Boulder, a rugged off-road SUV concept first shown at the 2026 New York International Auto Show, is now patented in India. This move signals Hyundai’s intention to enter the body-on-frame SUV segment in the country. The Korean automaker recently confirmed plans to launch 26 new models in India over five years, including seven all-new nameplates, at its Investor Day presentation in late 2025. Among these, a body-on-frame SUV stands out, suggesting the Hyundai Boulder could be a production reality for the Indian market by 2030.

The concept showcases Hyundai’s “Art of Steel” design language with a boxy, upright stance. It features massive 37-inch all-terrain tires, a full-size spare wheel on the tailgate, high ground clearance, short overhangs, and a roof-mounted LED light bar. Inside, the Hyundai Boulder offers multiple digital displays, physical control buttons, a rugged dashboard, and large grab handles, creating an adventure-focused cabin. This platform is Hyundai’s first body-on-frame architecture, expected to be its most capable off-road setup, also underpinning a future midsize pickup truck for the US.

Powertrain details remain undisclosed, but the Hyundai Boulder’s platform supports multiple options. It could offer internal combustion engine (ICE) and electric powertrains in production. In North America, the production SUV is likely to debut by 2030, competing with the Ford Bronco, Toyota 4Runner, Jeep Wrangler, and Land Rover Defender. The India patent filing strongly hints at local availability, though no official launch timeline has been confirmed.

Overall, the Hyundai Boulder represents Hyundai’s bold step into off-road territory with a body-on-frame design. Its rugged styling, adventure-focused interior, and flexible powertrain options make it a compelling addition to the Indian SUV market.
