Karnataka politics is abuzz with discussions about a potential leadership change. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has recently hinted at the possibility of Deputy CM DK Shivakumar succeeding him. This speculation comes amid talks of a 30-month power-sharing agreement within the Congress party, which gained traction after the party’s landslide victory in the 2023 Karnataka Assembly elections.

During a press interaction, Siddaramaiah stated that the decision ultimately rests with the party high command. This marks a significant shift in his stance, as he previously emphasized completing a full five-year term. DK Shivakumar, who has remained loyal to the party’s decisions, has expressed readiness to fulfill his duties, leaving leadership matters in the hands of Congress.

The agreement reportedly involves Siddaramaiah completing 30 months as CM before transferring the position to Shivakumar. Supporters of both Shivakumar and PWD Minister Satish Jarkiholi have intensified their campaigns, including temple rituals, to ensure their leader’s ascension to the top post. As Siddaramaiah approaches the 30-month mark of his term, the power-sharing formula may soon come into play.

Meanwhile, Siddaramaiah addressed allegations from BJP leader BY Vijayendra, who accused the Congress government of misusing funds allocated for SC/ST welfare. Siddaramaiah dismissed the claims as politically motivated. With a legacy that began in 1983 as an independent MLA and later shifted to Congress in 2008, Siddaramaiah remains a key figure in Karnataka’s political landscape, setting the stage for potential changes ahead.
