El Nino Effect: 3 high-risk districts in AP

El Nino Effect: 3 high-risk districts in AP are facing severe weather challenges as scientists warn the phenomenon will intensify in the coming days. Even after the start of the Kharif season, there is no significant rainfall, worrying farmers across the state.

The El Nino Effect has already caused a 25% rainfall deficit in June and a 41% deficit in July so far. Officials predict the entire southwest monsoon season could end with a 27% shortfall. Among the 688 mandals in Andhra Pradesh, the El Nino Effect severely impacts 105, with another 208 under moderate influence. Sri Sathyasai, Anantapur, and Annamaya districts are the most affected.

In addition to these high-risk areas, the El Nino Effect is moderately present in Kurnool, Nandyala, Chittoor, YSR Kadapa, Tirupati, Prakasam, Markapuram, and Nellore districts. Rains in other districts are also below expectations, leaving farmers anxious after sowing seeds but receiving little water.

The Andhra Pradesh government is preparing to address the crisis. State Home and Disaster Management Minister Anitha Vangalapudi has directed all departments to work with advance plans, emphasizing readiness to manage rainy conditions effectively. Farmers are urged to stay alert during this season, which lasts from June to November. The ongoing El Nino Effect highlights the need for proactive measures to protect livelihoods.
