E-25 petrol: The Indian government has officially stated that E-25 petrol is currently undergoing a full testing phase and no decision has been made for its immediate introduction. This clarification comes after false claims about the blended fuel spread online.
Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri dismissed the hype around E-20 petrol as a paid campaign, emphasizing that 20 lakh four-wheelers already use the fuel without any issues. He stated that E-20 fuel is completely safe, and no complaints have been reported since its nationwide adoption last year. Regarding E-25 petrol, the government advises patience as testing continues at automakers.
The Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) confirmed that E-20 fuel does not harm metal parts. However, when used in vehicles designed for E-10, there is some degradation in rubber components like hoses and seals. Officials clarified this is not a serious problem and does not affect engine performance. Fuel consumption may increase by 2-6 percent, but emissions remain within norms. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari challenged critics to produce evidence of any car facing issues with E-20 fuel.
The government highlighted economic benefits, noting that ethanol production could provide farmers with an additional income of approximately Rs. 45 thousand crores. As widespread testing of E-25 petrol progresses, officials urge the public to ignore false narratives and rely on verified information. For now, E-20 petrol remains a safe and reliable option.
