Kerala, known for its natural beauty, is grappling with the devastating impact of heavy rains, floods, and landslides. The situation in Wayanad is particularly grim, with the death toll rising to 93 as per the Kerala Revenue Department. Additionally, 98 people are still missing, while 116 others have sustained injuries and are receiving medical treatment in hospitals.
The relentless downpour in Wayanad is severely hampering relief and rescue operations. Teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Indian Army, and Kerala Police are on the ground, utilizing drones and patrol units to locate and assist survivors. However, the continuous rain is making their task increasingly difficult.
A major landslide struck Mundakai in Wayanad at midnight, prompting authorities to evacuate residents to a school in Chural Mala for safety. Tragically, another landslide occurred early in the morning, engulfing the school along with houses and shops in the vicinity. Several people who had taken shelter there are now feared to be trapped under the rubble.
Rescue teams are racing against time as muddy floodwaters continue to wreak havoc, with more landslides reported in Mundakai this afternoon. Many people are still buried under debris, awaiting help, while the entire region remains on high alert.
