Toyota Hyryder: Smaller Battery, Same Efficiency. The Japanese automaker has confirmed that the Urban Cruiser Hyryder Strong Hybrid now uses a smaller battery pack as part of a 2025 model year update. The change became public after owners noticed different battery specifications and discussed them online. In a statement, Toyota said the update was part of ongoing product improvements and does not affect the SUV’s performance or fuel efficiency.

Originally, the strong-hybrid version used a 0.76 kWh lithium-ion battery. From April last year, that was revised to 0.60 kWh. Despite the reduction, Toyota still claims an output of 115.56 PS and an ARAI-certified fuel efficiency of 27.97 km/l, meaning no official change in performance or efficiency figures. The Toyota Hyryder’s strong-hybrid system continuously charges and discharges the battery while driving.

With a smaller battery, the SUV could spend slightly less time in electric-only mode before the petrol engine assists. However, the reduced capacity may allow it to recharge more quickly, leading to shorter but more frequent charging cycles. Toyota states there is no noticeable impact on the overall driving experience. The powertrain, including the 1.5-liter three-cylinder Atkinson-cycle petrol engine and AC synchronous electric motor, remains unchanged.

In conclusion, this update to the Toyota Hyryder ensures the same claimed efficiency and power output despite the smaller battery. The change is part of routine product improvements, keeping the vehicle reliable and efficient for drivers.
