Lashkar-e-Taiba: Two Terrorists Killed in Shopian Orchard Encounter

Security forces in Jammu and Kashmir have eliminated two Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists during an encounter in an orchard in Shopian district. The operation, which began on Saturday and continued into Sunday, was launched after CCTV footage alerted the army to suspicious activity in the Meimandar area on Friday. The joint team of the Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and the Central Reserve Police Force acted swiftly to neutralize the threat.

The two terrorists, identified as Zakir and Latif, were associated with the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba. Investigations revealed that Zakir had joined the terrorist outfit in 2024, while Latif became a member last year. The security forces initiated a search operation after receiving information about the presence of Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists in the Meimander orchard. As the troops approached the hideout on Saturday, the terrorists opened fire, prompting the security forces to retaliate, leading to the encounter.

To prevent any escape, four nearby villages were cleared and a tight security cordon was established. Additional forces were deployed to reinforce the search operation. Despite initial confirmation that both Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists were killed, the search for their bodies continued on Sunday to ensure the area was fully sanitized. Army officials confirmed the success of the operation, highlighting the vigilance of security forces against Lashkar-e-Taiba activities in the region.

This encounter once again underscores the unwavering commitment of security forces to tackling the threat posed by Lashkar-e-Taiba in south Kashmir. The area remains under tight security until the search operation concludes, ensuring no further risks to civilians or personnel.
