BRS Harish Rao: Has Congress Hidden a Rs 4.5 Lakh Crore Debt?

BRS Harish Rao: has accused the Congress government in Telangana of hiding a massive debt of Rs 4.5 lakh crore, while falsely claiming a lower figure. In a strongly worded letter to Minister Jupalli Krishna Rao, Rao demanded transparency and an end to what he calls misleading propaganda about the state’s financial situation.

Rao stated that during the nine-and-a-half-year BRS rule, the total debt incurred was only Rs 4.17 lakh crore, as per official records presented in the Assembly. He expressed outrage that Congress leaders, including Revanth Reddy, had claimed in March that the debt under their government was just Rs 1.77 lakh crore. However, Harish Rao pointed out that Revanth Reddy’s own earlier speech in the Assembly mentioned a debt of Rs 3.47 lakh crore, which is part of the overall liability.

Supporting his argument, Harish Rao attached evidence including a video of Revanth Reddy’s assembly speech, RBI data, and his own public statements. He challenged the Congress government to verify these figures and stop spreading false information. According to BRS Harish Rao, the actual debt incurred by the Congress government through various loans and guarantees now stands close to Rs 4.5 lakh crore, far exceeding what they admit.

In conclusion, Harish Rao urged Minister Jupalli Krishna Rao to present the true picture of state debts and avoid misleading the public. He reiterated that the BRS government maintained fiscal discipline, and the current administration must be honest about its financial management. The letter demands clarity, not propaganda.
