Tata Motors: Boosting Quality with AI and Digital Innovation, as the automaker announces a major shift toward proactive quality management using advanced technology. The company plans to significantly increase its use of artificial intelligence, predictive diagnostics, and digital engineering to prevent vehicle issues before they occur, rather than fixing problems after customers report them. Managing Director and CEO Shailesh Chandra stated that Tata Motors is moving to a more forward-looking approach to quality, aiming to enhance both manufacturing standards and the overall ownership experience.
This renewed focus comes after a period of rapid expansion in passenger vehicle sales and portfolio, during which the company faced criticism regarding product quality and after-sales service. By strengthening checks at plants, improving logistics, and introducing electronic proof-of-delivery, Tata Motors has already achieved a nearly 60 percent reduction in early-life vehicle issues. Now, to further improve reliability, the company will expand the use of digital twins and hardware-in-loop validation, which allow engineers to test vehicle systems virtually before any physical prototype is built.
Tata Motors also intends to use artificial intelligence alongside connected vehicle data to predict potential faults and optimize manufacturing processes continuously. In after-sales, new AI-powered diagnostic tools will help service technicians identify faults more accurately, reducing repair times and repeat visits. The company says its Total Quality Management (TQM) framework will now be implemented across engineering, manufacturing, suppliers, and service operations to ensure consistent quality at every stage.
