PM Modi Pays Tribute to Akkineni Nageswara Rao on His Centenary in Mann Ki Baat

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his Mann Ki Baat program, honored the legendary Indian actor Akkineni Nageswara Rao (ANR) as he approaches his centenary year in 2024. Recognizing ANR’s immense contributions to Indian cinema, Modi stated, “Akkineni Nageswara Rao elevated Telugu cinema to new heights through his unparalleled efforts. His films beautifully showcased Indian culture, heritage, and values, leaving an indelible mark on the industry.”

With a remarkable seven-decade-long career, ANR delivered numerous blockbuster films that played a pivotal role in the growth of Telugu cinema. Beyond his cinematic achievements, he was instrumental in relocating the Telugu film industry to Hyderabad, founding the iconic Annapurna Studios, which remains a cornerstone of Telugu filmmaking.

In recognition of his unparalleled contributions to Indian cinema, ANR was awarded the Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan, Padma Vibhushan, and the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award. This year, as a tribute to his legacy, the Government of India issued a special commemorative stamp in his honor. Additionally, ANR’s classic films were screened at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa, showcasing his timeless artistry.

To celebrate his birth centenary, the Akkineni family hosted a grand event, which saw legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan and megastar Chiranjeevi being honored with the prestigious ANR National Award. This celebration not only paid homage to ANR’s legacy but also underscored his lasting influence on Indian cinema.
