MT Vasudevan Nair: A tragedy has struck the Malayalam film industry. Noted writer and director MT Vasudevan Nair passed away on Wednesday night. He breathed his last while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Kozhikode. He is suffering from age-related problems and is being treated. However, on 15th July 1933 Vasudevan was born in Cuddalore near Palakkad. He had a keen interest in literature from his childhood. More works written by him like ‘Nalkettu, Asuravittu, Manju, Sarpavittu’ have gained the appreciation of the readers.

However, MT Vasudevan Nair, who worked as a teacher for some time, later entered the Malayalam film industry in the 1960s. He provided screenplay for about 54 movies. Also, he acted as a director for many films. Movies directed by him like Nirmalyam and Kadavu won National Film Awards in the Best Film category. Four times Vasudevan won National Awards for Best Screenplay. In 1995 MT Vasudevan Nair was awarded the Jnanpeetha Award by the Central Government. She was honored with Padma Bhushan in 2005.
