Veteran actor Rao Ramesh’s film ‘Maruthi Nagar Subramaniam’ is ready for release. Directed by director Laxman Karya, this film is produced by Bujji Rayudu Pentyala and Mohan Karya under PBR Cinemas and Lokamatre Cinematics. Creative director Sukumar’s wife Tabitha is presenting this film. As the release of the film is nearing, director Laxman Karya interacted with the media as part of the promotions.
Laxman Karya Garu… Tell me about yourself!
Ours is Tirupati. A friend likes acting. I used to do photoshoots and short films for him. Knowing about the auditions for Omkar’s ‘Genius’ show, my friend and I came to Hyderabad with my short films and photos. My friend got selected. When asked who made these short films, my friend said about me. So he joined ‘Genius’ as an actor and I as an assistant director. After that I went to town and completed my graduation. Came to Hyderabad again with interest in movies. Joined cinematographer Srikanth Naroj as an assistant. With his help, I joined the directorial department of ‘Autonagar Surya’. After that I prepared a story. I told Allu Sirish. He liked it. But, with the start of ‘Sri Rastu Shubhamastu’, my project got sidetracked. Then became a director with the web series ‘Endukila’. Sumanth Ashwin is the hero in it. After that series, he and Niharika had a ‘happy wedding’ as a couple. ‘Maruti Nagar Subramaniam’ is my second film as a director.
Why is the gap between the first film and the second film more?
It took six months to figure out where ‘Happy Wedding’ went wrong. Even if the story and hero character were written before, so that this time no mistake should be made and success should be achieved. However, due to Corona, I was vacant for two years. After that we started the movie.
Did you write the story with Rao Ramesh in mind?
I wrote the story before. After thinking about who would be good, Rao Ramesh came to my mind. By then he had done pan India hits like ‘KGF’, ‘Pushpa’ and ‘Dhamaka’. He is doing films selectively. Many people said that he would not do it. Waited for one meeting. He laughed after saying the first dialogue. Narrate the story in 15-20 minutes. Ok done.
What was the inspiration behind the story of ‘Maruti Nagar Subramaniam’? Any inspiration..?
One day 80 thousand was deposited in my wife’s account. It is not known who put it. We have seen that if someone makes a mistake, they will call. Who didn’t. Should that money be spent? Or what to do? She thought. Then she called all her friends. They say we don’t know if we don’t know. Clarity came after two days. My mother in law is in foreign. She put it! Things that happened in the house for those two days seemed funny. If any money falls in the boy’s account, it will be spent. A man with children and family responsibilities will think if he falls into the account. So when I wrote the story, I wrote it as a middle-aged father. Rao Ramesh did a wonderful job in that role.
A dialogue on Allu Arvind Gari, a song inspired by Allu Arjun’s songs. What is that story?
In our movie, Rao Ramesh and Ankit Koya acted as father and son. Ankit Koyaku thinks that he is a child of a rich family and was converted as a child in the ‘Ala Vaikunthapuramulo’ concept type. His feeling is that Allu is Arvind’s son. Allu thinks Arjun is his elder brother. When he saw the girl he loved, he imagined what happened in the movies of Allu Arjun. In recent movies, the best father and son relationship is seen in ‘Maruti Nagar Subramaniam’.
What will be the character of Indraja Gari?
We are not revealing much about Indraja Gari’s character. She will surprise in the movie. Rao played the role of Ramesh’s wife and Kalamani brilliantly. There is one important scene in the movie. Every day she is telling her about that scene. If I told her a few minutes before the shooting, they casually looked at each other. After telling the action, it was done in a single shot. She gave a fantastic performance.
What is the reason for Sukumar’s wife Tabitha to present the film?
My wife Tabitha has common friends. They both know each other. But Tabitha did not know that I do films. After the movie, I asked my wife to tell me once. She said. Then Tabitha garu and Sukumar garu called and talked. They said to promote it to the public. We made a video for Rao Ramesh with ‘KGF’ and ‘Sithamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu’ getups. We have released the first look through QR code by the audience. We also released songs. One day Sukumar told Tabitha that the song was released and it was good. Since then she has been asking for all her updates. He said, ‘If you want to do anything, do it 100 percent’, he said that he will watch the film. Sukumar is the Pan India Director. So, Tabitha was afraid of Gari and put a preview. I’m out the door. I put one of our team inside to give regular updates before the preview starts. I heard laughter. Then feel happy. Tabitha appreciated that the movie was good.
‘Maruti Nagar Subramaniam’ is being distributed by Maitri Sanstha! Did you show them the movie?
Maitri Sashi came with Tabitha. He also liked the movie. After that, Naveen asked Erneni and Ravi Shankar to show the movie. They liked it too. They said they will do the distribution.
Sukumar hasn’t seen the movie yet?
Tabitha was given a preview when Sukumar could not come. Just then I sent the hard disk to Sukumar’s house. Check it out at your spare time! One day the shooting was canceled due to fever. Tabitha called at eleven that day. Sukumar will watch the movie today! Since then, he started moving within a radius of two to three kilometers from his house. The phone rang at half past two. He said that Rao Ramesh did a wonderful job and the film was well made. I don’t remember what was said after that except for the first five minutes. I floated in joy. His words gave me more confidence. I hope the audience on August 23 will also laugh with the same joy when they watch the film.
