It was reported that one of the players in the 23 member Indian cricket team who is in the middle of England tour was tested Covid-19 positive during the 20-day break and will not be travelling to Durham along with rest of the team today.
In an E-mail sent by Jay Shah, BCCI Secretary to the Indian team in UK, he warned the players to be cautious in the wake of raising cases of Covid-19. The team is supposed to enter bio-bubble after assembling at Durham ahead of their test series against England which will commence next month.
A BCCI source on the condition of anonymity has told a news agency, “Yes, one of the players has tested positive although he is largely asymptomatic currently. He is in qurantine at an acquaintaince’s place and won’t be travelling with the team to Durham on Thursday.” While the touring team remained tight-lipped about the details of the player, it is learnt that he is affected by the new Delta variant whose cases are on the rise in UK in recent times.
In his E-mail, Shah advised players to avoid crowded places particularly like Wimbledon and Euro Cup Championships which concluded recently and also stated that Covishield provides only protection but not full immunity against the virus, he stated. India will clash with England in a five-match test series with opener on August 4 at Trent Bridge, Nottingham.
