In a bizarre incident, Tamil Nadu Minister for Fisheries Anitha Radhakrishnan was carried physically by some fishermen when he went to a coastal village in Tiruvallur to inspect a fishing hamlet Pazhaverkadu on Thursday following the complaint made by fisherman that their boats are getting damaged as they enter water body due to erosion.
After disembarking from a boat, the Minister was carried on their hands by fisherman so that the sparkling white sneakers and dhoti of the Minister do not get spoiled by the ankle deep water and this news has become viral on social media inviting satirical comments from the netizens. He was lashed out for his his arrogance and high-handedness. Many asked why he could not fold his Dhoti or remove his shoes, rather than make another adult carry him. Some had pointed out an incident involving Tamil Nadu’s most-admired Chief Minister K Kamaraj, where he had waded into chest-deep water to get to a village and meet the people.
The minister on the other hand has assured the fishermen community that the DMK party will extend all help and fulfil the promises made during elections and assured that he will ensure the construction of a fishing harbour in their locality. He seems to have got immensely impressed by the gesture of fishermen who took enough care to keep his sneakers and dhoti dry without getting spoiled.
