Now with the T20 World Cup shifted to UAE, the desert nation is going to host the cricket fiesta which is nothing short of a storm in the desert as there will be plenty of action in the coming months. The IPL 2021 which got suspended due to positive Covid-19 instances among teams and their sub-staff including some of the groundsmen in India will now resume on September 19 in UAE and concludes by October 10 just two weeks before the commencement of T20 World Cup.

As far as clash with the dates is concerned, BCCI President Sourav Ganguly revealed that they are yet to finalise the dates for the T20 World Cup. Even if it starts on the heels of the IPL, it should not be a problem since the first 12 fixtures would be the qualifiers between eight teams. Those matches will be played in Oman, he told Times of India.

The tentative timelines of IPL 2021 and T20 World Cup:

  • IPL 2021 starts on September 18-19
  • IPL Season 14 concludes on October 10
  • T20 World Cup begins on October 17 (Only qualifier matches)
  • Eight-team qualifier matches will be held in Oman
  • Mainstream T20 World Cup begins on October 24/25
  • T20 World Cup concludes on November 14.
