Uttar Pradesh is going to be added to the list of divided states if the course of incidents that are taking place in New Delhi are an indication. The meeting of the Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath with the Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Narendra Modi seem to be a stepping stone towards the division of the largest State in the country.
Yogi Adityanath is unhappy over the induction of former Union Minister Jitin Prasad into the BJP as it has further widened the rift between Yogi and Narendra Modi. In addition, the BJP is thinking of changing the guard at Uttar Pradesh in view of the opposition being received against the Government of Adityanath as the assembly elections of this State are due next year.
BJP who is looking at various strategies including cabinet reshuffle and change of Chief Minister is also contemplating to divide the State and constitute a separate State of Purvanchal. According to the reports, the new State of Purvanchal will consist of 23 to 25 districts including Gorakhpur which is the stronghold of Adityanath. He got elected 5 times from this constituency to the Lok Sabha. By this division, BJP is definitely going to get the edge in the ensuing assembly elections.
