According to a prediction in the ‘Textbook of Medical Mycology’ written by Jagdish Chander, the author predicted the rise in black fungus infection cases in India. The author also alarmingly warned that the fungal infection will destroy India in future.
Black Fungus which is technically known as Mucormycosis is on the rise recently in the country giving credibility to the prediction mentioned in the 2018 textbook. The Covid patients if infected with mucormycosis, the mortality and morbidity among patients will increase according to AIIMS director Dr. Sandeep Guleria.
Mucormycosis or the black fungus infection could affect the nose, eyes, and the brain of the patient and severe cases may also lead to loss of vision and also death in some cases, Guleria warned. Due to increase in black fungus cases, the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers has involved five more pharma companies in addition to the six existing firms to manufacture Amphotericin-B drug in view of its acute shortage.
