The Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has yesterday urged Central Government to take necessary steps to control the spread of new variant of Covid-19 originated from Singapore and requested for ban of flights from Singapore to India.

Singapore reacted swiftly and in a sharp retort by the Singapore foreign minister Vivian Balakrishnan who lashed out at Delhi Chief Minister and asked him to “stick to the facts”. Politicians should stick to facts! There is no “Singapore variant” Balakrishnan replied to Arvind Kejriwal on twitter.

Earlier, Indian envoy was summoned by the Singapore and conveyed strong objection to the comments of Arvind Kejriwal on twitter to which foreign minister of India S. Jaishankar mentioned that Mr Kejriwal has “no competence on Covid variants”. “The Delhi Chief Minister does not speak for India” added the foreign minister.
