In an unprecedented development, IPL 2021 was suspended in the wake of increasing Covid-19 positive cases. Recently, after two of the players from Kolkata Knight Riders and bowling coach of CSK, L. Balaji got tested positive for Coronavirus, now Wriddhiman Saha of Sunrisers, Hyderabad and Amit Mishra of Delhi Capitals too were tested positive.
In view of the increasing cases across the country, and detection of positive cases among the players despite being in bio-bubble compelled the IPL Committee to take a decision to indefinitely postpone the tournament giving utmost importance to the health and safety of the players as well as the support staff associated with various franchisees.
Multiple cases were reported and four franchisees were in isolation due to the outbreak of coronavirus among various team members according to the reports. It’s inevitable that the tournament has to be postponed indefinitely and its not known when its going to resume or going to be cancelled totally.
UPDATE: The Indian Premier League Governing Council (IPL GC) and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in an emergency meeting has unanimously decided to postpone IPL 2021 season with immediate effect.
