A 61-run partnership for the sixth wicket between K.L.Rahul (91*) and Harpreet Brar (25*) proved to be the crucial factor for Punjab Kings to register a 34-run victory over Royal Challengers, Bangalore in IPL 2021 in Ahmedabad today.
Punjab Kings made a combative total of 179/5 with Chris Gayle too adding a quick-fire 46 in 24 balls apart from the match winning partnership between Rahul and Harpreet. Harshal Patel (0/53) suffered the most among the bowlers of RCB who was hit for as many as 40 runs in 18th and 20th overs as Rahul caused the maximum damage in the middle.
Chasing 180 for victory, RCB lost Devdutt Padikkal at the score of 19 but Virat Kohli (35) and Rajat Patidar (31) steadied the innings to some extent but Harpreet Brar (3/19) who ran through the innings of RCB claiming wickets of Kohli, Maxwell and AB de Viliers in quick succession sounded the death knell for Challengers who finished their innings at 145/8. Harpreet who is playing his first match in the tournament was adjudged as Player of the Match.
